"Ive tried 2-3 other apps. Ive kept paper logs. Nothing has been easier to use than this app. I couldnt figure out why I couldnt enter my warm up sets...its because you dont need to! You enter your work set weight and it tells you exactly what to load on the warmup-ups..."

Pros and cons of Starting Strength Official app for iPhone and iPad

Starting Strength Official app good for

Its about time this sort of app was released! Its great to be able to quickly reference parts of the Starting Strength book without carrying around the book with you. The ability to track your workouts is also great. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the workout tracker doesnt allow you to switch exercises for pull-ups/back extension version of the program. Please add that in! Great job otherwise.
This is a great app and I recommend you buy it, especially if you have read the starting strength books. Like others have said, it would be real nice if they added features for advanced novice training. You currently cannot enter data for assistance exercises nor other variations of the program that typically take place in later stages of the novice program. Because starting strength is such a great brand Im sure they will probably add it later. Until then its a 4 out of 5 star app. Looking way ahead, perhaps they should create an entirely seperate app for Texas method or more advanced training beyond novice programming. Update**** They added chin-ups as an assistance exercise... The app has earned its fifth star.
After languishing with other apps that tried to be a swiss-knife to logging a workout, it is refreshing to find such a focused and useful tool.
The app does a great job of making the worlds best general strength training program easy to follow.
Great app. Achieves its intended purpose very well. Updated frequently. Looking forward to an update which makes it easy to advance through the warmups, right now its difficult to do with chalky hands.
I am novice weight lifter and this helps with warm ups has a timer and is easy to use. Buy the book, read the book but use this during training.

Some bad moments

I dont often have expectations for apps, but I do expect if I pay $8.99 for an app I shouldnt have to delete it and reload it every time I workout. Newest update makes it constantly crash. Will update this review once this is fixed.
NO LONGER WORKING 6-10-16! This was a great app until it started crashing and no longer opens! I tried restarting my phone and reinstalling app! Please fix and I will change my review to 5 stars!
This app is very well thought out, and if it functioned properly would be a 5 star app. But it’s incredibly glitchy and doesn’t hold the settings that get programmed. I’d expect this from a free app, but not one that costs $8.99.
I thought youd plug in you 1 RMs and it would give your percentages to hit that day. Like a Medium day, light day, and a PR day. Aka Texas Method but instead all it is a incremental linear progression. Maybe you can set up that way but I havent seen any options. So pretty much its a glorified notebook and stop watch for 9 dollars.
The lowest weight you can set for an exercise is 45# (the bare Oly bar). For those of us who can’t life that much (my press is weak), the app is useless for tracking workouts. Hopefully this will be fixed quickly as I’m eager to use it.
This is okay but the lack of advanced novice programming is disappointing. Also, I see no way of changing it if you clean on a different day.
